Common Questions About
Our Insurance & Payment Options
What does it mean to be out-of-network?
With the exception of Delta Dental (for Dr. Fanger), our office does not contract with any insurance carriers. However, we can file claims on your behalf with most insurance plans that have out-of-network coverage. We are unable to bill Oregon Health Plan or HMO policies. Please contact our office if you have questions about your insurance coverage.
When do I need to pay for services?
Estimated patient out-of-pocket costs are due at the time of service. Sometimes the final bill will be different from the estimate. This decision is made by your insurance company, not our office. Any remaining balance after your insurance has been processed will be the patient's responsibility.
Why did you decide to go in-network with Delta Dental?
We know that dental benefits are important. We always want to help patients make the most of their coverage whenever possible. Dr. Fanger is now a Delta Dental Premier Provider because Delta Dental is one of the most common insurance plans we work with. It allows us to offer many patients an in-network option while still maintaining the level of care our practice believes in.
Why are you not in-network with other insurance plans?
At this time, we are not in-network with other insurance companies because many plans have limitations. It can make it harder to provide the level of personalized, high-quality care our patients expect. Our goal is to balance insurance access with excellent dentistry, advanced treatment options, and the best possible long-term outcomes for our patients.
Why is Dr. Kennedy an unrestricted provider?
Dr. Kennedy is an unrestricted provider, meaning he is not contracted with insurance companies. This allows him to continue offering advanced and complex dental care without being limited by insurance fee schedules, treatment restrictions, or coverage rules that may not always align with a patient's best treatment options.
Why are my benefits different depending on which provider I see?
Because Dr. Fanger is in-network with Delta Dental and Dr. Kennedy is an unrestricted provider, your benefits and estimated out-of-pocket costs may vary depending on which provider you see. Our team will always do our best to explain those differences clearly and help you understand your estimated costs before treatment.
Can I see both Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Fanger depending on availability and the services recommended?
Yes. You may continue to see either doctor based on your treatment needs, availability, and the type of care recommended. When you see Dr. Fanger, Delta Dental patients may receive in-network benefits. This can help reduce out-of-pocket costs depending on the details of your individual plan.
When you see Dr. Kennedy, we will still submit your insurance claim and any supporting documentation needed to help maximize your available benefits. However, because he is an unrestricted provider and is not contracted with insurance companies, your out-of-pocket costs may be different.
Please keep in mind that insurance estimates are not guarantees. We do our best to provide accurate estimates based on the information available to us, but the final decision is made by your insurance company based on your eligibility, plan details, and processing guidelines. Any remaining balance after insurance has processed will be the patient's responsibility.
Why is my bill more than the estimate?
It is fairly common for a final bill to be different from the estimate. Keep in mind that insurance estimates are not guarantees. Final coverage is determined by your insurance company, and any remaining balance after insurance has processed will be the patient's responsibility.
