Meet the Dentist Dedicated to Exceptional, Personalized Care

Hi, I'm Dr. Gerald Kennedy. I'm a dentist. I have a master's in the Academy of General Dentistry.

I'm a DMD, which means I graduated dental school. The master's in the Academy of General Dentistry is very important to me. It has required me to take extended continuing education courses to advance my knowledge in dentistry.

I'm very proud of that. It took 25 years to achieve. As a son of a dentist, I got to observe my dad and how he treated patients.

He was a very quiet man, but I could see the satisfaction he got from doing his job. It always surprised me because he loved the detailed work, but all the interaction with the patients, I think, was very good for him, and it brought him satisfaction, even though he was very quiet. I'm more of a people person than he is, and so it really appealed to me to work with people, and I have inherited the desire to work with my hands, and dentistry brings you a lot of satisfaction because you find a problem, you fix the problem, and have it done, and have a happy ending.

I came to Portland to go to dental school. It really grew on me. I had planned to go back to my hometown, which is in a small town in Idaho, but Portland really just became my home.

It's a beautiful area to practice, and I ended up having an opportunity when I was a senior in dental school to work for a couple dentists that had started this practice originally in 1960. After I met with them, it just became an opportunity that was too good to be true, and I worked with them for many years. I had two mentors right out of the gate, and it really helped me grow and become comfortable, and I kind of developed their philosophy in how to practice, and first and foremost, it's a family practice.

You know, we have all generations, and it just really appealed to me, and a wide variety of treatment and patients, and it was really one of the best things that happened to me.

As the son of a dentist, Dr. Kennedy grew up in the business of teeth. As a child, he was a typical teen who spent time as a patient in his father's office. He also has the experience of more than three years of orthodontic treatment wearing braces to straighten his teeth. He is a dental patient just like you!

While attending OHSU School of Dentistry, Dr. Kennedy distinguished himself in his chosen profession. Upon graduation in 1991 with clinical and academic honors, he had already established a track record of achievement and excellence. He graduated near the top of his class and has received numerous awards and honors. Among those are:

  • Graduating from the internationally renowned KOIS CENTER® that offers motivated dentists the most up-to-date and advanced training in order to provide his patients with the best care available.
  • Earning his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, an achievement that only 2% of all dentists gain during their careers, completing over 1,100 hours of continuing education and a rigorous written exam.
  • Being the FIRST in Oregon to be accredited and licensed to offer Guided Biofilm Therapy, an innovative cleaning technique that removes harmful bacteria without scraping.
