I love coming to Kennedy Dental. It’s a neighborhood place where I just happened upon and have absolutely loved. Everybody is extremely welcoming and friendly.
It’s been really easy. Dr. Kennedy gives you so much information. He is so passionate about teeth and dental care and is always giving me scientific information, which I like.
Basically just feels transparent. It feels like everybody’s here to be helpful. The way they communicate from the front desk, calling or texting and answering questions and just being so nice and friendly.
I feel like they’re really upfront about what they’re doing and the costs, which feels really helpful in planning. So I feel like they just give you a lot upfront and that’s a ease of mind. I actually became a patient and then moved away for six years.
And when I moved back, I’ve never had a desire to really go back to a dentist, but I just had so much trust that they had done excellent care of my teeth before. Everything has been fine since many, many years ago. So it’s been seemed like really high quality interventions when I’ve gotten things done.

The quality of care here, I have had a couple of years where I had major things that I needed and he walked me through it. We’re transparent about the financial. We’re transparent about the pain or what I might need.
He lets me be transparent about my level of concern and time-wise the timeline that we could use for it and so by the time the procedures start, I’m really confident that it’s going to be successful. If there’s something that he sees, you can see that he starts working right away on what would be the best care for this. Also just the little things like he’s got music and he lets me play the music I want while he’s doing all these things that could be considered scary and I like the sunglasses and I like that there’s different flavors for the floss and the toothbrushes that he’s going to let me take.
Lots of little touches.

First time I met, I showed him my teeth and what I wanted to do, and he was just putting me at ease right away. Like a lot of people, I have a fear of dentistry. Growing up was when it was brutal at times with the shots and not having good pain care or management.
And it hasn’t been like that with Dr. Kennedy. The other thing was how comfortable they made me feel. Being a mechanical engineer, I like to know the technical aspects of what they’re doing, the drills and various methods they use, how things are glued together.
He always humored me and answered my questions in that respect. That was awesome, too. One of the things that put me off at some of the other offices I went to, I’d walk into the office and they didn’t acknowledge me as I walked in there.
I’d just kind of show up and sit down and wait for something to happen. They call me up ahead of time quite often. They also entertain me while I’m in here.
Hey, how you doing, Curtis? Good to see you. Nothing about the dentistry or the appointment. It’s just, how are you doing? They want to know about me personally.
And that’s something I hadn’t experienced at other offices. I have issues with my back due to an injury on my vertebrae, so sitting in that chair can be very uncomfortable. And they’re very accommodating.
If I say, hey, I need to stand up to stretch for a minute, not an issue. They’re very accommodating in that respect. I’ve had several jobs in the time I’ve been coming to Dr. Kennedy, so that means insurance starts and stops and creates confusion about how things work.
And they’ve been very helpful at just taking care of that stuff. Just give me the number. I will call you, let you know what’s going on.
If I need anything from you, I will call you and let you know. So they’re just very accommodating in that respect. And it’s taken a lot of the stress out of doing the work that I need to be done.

My wife and I moved to North Portland about 18 years ago, and we asked around and a neighbor recommended Dr. Kennedy. And so, lucky for us, he had an opening and we came here as patients. And over the 18 years, we’ve learned to love coming here.
They’re just the best people. We really like them a lot. They’re professionally the best, really skilled.
But the thing that I appreciate the most, I think, is that they treat us as partners. They tell us what they’re finding when they do their exams. They tell us what kind of options we have for treatment.
They tell us what those are going to cost. And so, we’re able to develop our individualized plans with them in ways that really work for us, both in terms of taking care of our health and taking care of the I’m retired. I don’t have a ton of money to spend on dental care.
And I just have, over that time period, come to really trust them. And that’s, I think, at bottom, what I appreciate the most about Dr. Kennedy and his staff.

Three times now I’ve had a small emergency like an old crown, not his, but an old crown that was put in fall out on a day that he does not work and he made sure that he came in on his day off to fix it and I really appreciate that. When I was about to travel and he took care of it and he listens, he has a number that we can call when we need it and he has always come through on that. When it’s an emergency there’s a there’s a feeling that you go through, you’re in the middle of talking or eating and all of a sudden, oh there’s a rock, oh no that’s my tooth.
And being able to just pick up the phone, I called the office and it says if this is an emergency call this number. So I feel like I’m not bothering him, he’s saying if there’s a problem call. He gets back pretty fast and then it’s like okay sounds like you need this, I can come in at such and such a time, can you come in the back door, we’ll do it really fast so he doesn’t have to open the front door, he’s thought it all through.
I probably get the most attention then because he’s able to do everything by himself, he doesn’t need a crew for that moment and we get to chat and again not feeling like he’s rushed or that you know I’ll do it but I gotta go to dinner. He’s very positive about it and who doesn’t like having crowns? I’m just a princess.

After having a really bad, painful root canal gone bad, the previous dentist and him being able to fix all of that, I appreciated just the priority to which they were able to schedule me because the pain was really bad and I just wanted the tooth extracted and he acknowledged that I could just have a tooth gone and do nothing for it, but he also gave me a lot of education that if I, you know, I might want to consider an implant just for vanity’s sake and so he, I felt like he gave me all of the options and treatment, but it encouraged me to do the implant and at the time I thought I wouldn’t need it and then once it was gone I did miss it and for vanity’s sake I changed my mind of course. Yes, I’d like an implant so his advice I took in the end because it was good advice. It was great.
I feel like the process of getting an implant is a long process so it starts with the extraction. That was really easeful. I feel like the office gives you a clear plan to make sure that pain would be not a problem in any procedure and actually I think every time Dr. Kennedy was able to just numb the area and I never had to use the gas to kind of ease it, then afterward they just refunded the money that I didn’t use on the gas so I think that also is an example of their transparency and how they’re like you didn’t actually use this so you’ll get that money back.
I feel no pain and that’s number one excellent but I also just feel like I’ve shown other friends my teeth and said guess which one is the implant and it looks like totally natural and so all in all I’m really happy with having no pain and having teeth that look natural.

When I was in high school, I was involved in an accident. It knocked nine teeth loose in the front of my mouth. It did not break my jaw, but did damage to my… caused me TMJ-type effect.
My parents took me to the dentist, the family dentist, and basically what he did was he looked at me and went, oh, my God. He reached in with his finger, pulled some of my teeth out to straighten them, and I remember this to this day. He said, we’ll let this sit for about two weeks, let the tissue kind of stabilize, and then we’ll figure out what we need to do at that point.
I had two root canals from that, but as far as straightening the teeth, the alignment, nothing else was done, so I had very crooked teeth. And because of that, the bite was horrendous. I had lots of pain.
I was recommended to Dr. Kennedy by the guy who was doing my routine general dentistry. And I recall the first meeting we had, and he started immediately going over and saying, well, tell me, how is this injured? Do you have any details on that? What have you had done previously, just like I’ve been explaining to you? And then he started going over the plan of action. He says, this is what we can do.
Here’s the time frame that it would take. You know, this is not a two or three office visit type thing. This is going to be considerable because I literally had my mouth completely worked on.
Every tooth was touched in some way to get me back in alignment. The TMJ I mentioned with my jaws hurting when I would bite or things like that, it totally went away. That issue just vanished, getting it lined up properly.
Now, since I’ve had this work with Dr. Kennedy, I’ve had compliments on a regular basis about my teeth and how they look and how beautiful they are. As a guy, I’ve never had my teeth, oh, you’ve got beautiful teeth, until this work was done. So it’s awesome.

Contrasting it with previous experiences, and I remember having a bit of an anxiety attack one time at a different doctor’s office, and I didn’t know how to tell them, and I felt like it took way too long to see that it was happening. Whereas here, I can think of one time when I thought, oh no, you’ve had an anxiety attack, so you’re going to have an anxiety attack, which started giving me this feeling that I was going to have an anxiety attack, and I felt like they caught it right away, like you could be okay. So they’re watching for it.
They know what to watch for. I get the nitrous oxide, and I get really great music, and I go to sleep, and I have my mouth open, and he does it. That’s the process as I know it, because he lets me feel safe.
You can feel a lot of what’s going on. It doesn’t hurt, but you can feel it, and he walks you through it. He says, now I’m going to do this, or here’s what you’re going to feel.
There’s enough stops of, how are you doing, that he’ll check and make sure that before he goes on, what he needs to do. Also, just the little things, like he’s got music, and he lets me play the music I want while he’s doing all these things that could be considered scary.

I inherited a lot of good things from my ancestors, but good teeth wasn’t one of them. And so I’ve had a variety of teeth problems ever since I was a little kid. And with Dr. Kennedy, it’s the first time I had somebody really look at me comprehensively and figure out a treatment plan that was going to take a few years, actually, to carry out.
But I would understand what was happening each step of the way. I would understand what it was going to cost, what it would take. And so I felt like, finally, my mouth is in good shape.
So that’s been a huge gift. I’d had dental work done in earlier years that didn’t hold up. That’s how I would describe it.
So crowns that cracked or fillings that came out. I had a couple of accidents where I chipped teeth. And so he has repaired all of those things.
And like I say, he told me about what my choices were in order to do it and how each choice fit into the bigger picture of my overall plan for the coming years. That was just a gift, really a gift. I would go out of here having had a really positive experience and feel like I finally understand what this is all about and know what they’re going to do and why they’re going to do it and why it makes sense.
I feel like it’s normal. That’s the thing. If you have already got really good teeth, normal is something you’re used to.
But I spent a lot of years where I had teeth problems that I was kind of avoiding dealing with. I don’t feel that way any longer.
I love coming to Kennedy Dental. It’s a neighborhood place where I just happened upon and have absolutely loved. Everybody is extremely welcoming and friendly.
