What we term sometimes as smile makeovers where we’re working on people’s front teeth and usually that would entail a significant amount of work. That can be done lots of different ways and it is impactful because when somebody needs to have their front teeth worked on it’s usually due to trauma or childhood cavities that have damaged their teeth and now at a certain age the teeth are weak and need to be fixed and in my experience those cases really are ones that can be life-changing. We don’t want to overuse that term, you know we’re in the business of health and we do change people’s lives maybe for the positive, but you know some people it’s minor and when we do smile makeovers they can be life-changing from the standpoint of how we feel about ourselves.
I’m a dentist I broke a tooth when I was in dental school which I thought was a little irony and I didn’t realize how much it affected me. I had to go around with a broken tooth for a while till I could get it fixed and it was it was really an eye-opener for me and my dentist who it was a mentor of mine came in on the weekend and fixed my tooth. I’ve been internally grateful for him for him doing that for me and that was just one tooth, one small fracture.
We had a patient recently who’s in treatment now that’s been waiting his whole life and we put his temporaries in for treatment of childhood damage to his teeth. We know now not to give tetracycline to patients when they’re young that particular antibiotic gets incorporated into the tooth as it develops and it’s it turns it brown and yellow and that’s what happened to this patient, so he literally he’s a big brawny guy and he got tears in his eyes. He said he’s been waiting for that for 50 years.
That was a life-changing moment and a very a very emotional moment for both of us, but a proud moment too.

Cosmetic dentistry primarily focuses on enhancing the appearance of teeth and smiles. While it may not directly improve oral health, it can have indirect benefits. Procedures like teeth whitening, veneers, and orthodontic treatments can motivate individuals to take better care of their oral hygiene, leading to improved oral health habits. Cosmetic treatments can address issues like misaligned teeth or gaps, which may contribute to oral health problems if left untreated. Therefore, while cosmetic dentistry may not directly impact oral health, it can play a role in promoting overall dental well-being.
