Guided biofilm therapy is just a description of a piece of equipment that uses warm water and cleans your teeth more precisely than how it used to be done and is still done with instruments and polishing your teeth. The polishing that has been traditionally done is to try to remove stain and the biofilm or the plaque.
Now it’s done in a very precise way where we have the ability to stain the bacteria that are on your teeth and we can tell how long they’ve been there so we could advise the patient that they’re missing an area for a couple days because we can see that and then we can precisely clean the teeth and we essentially remove 100% of the biofilm and it also will clean a little below the gum line so it helps him clean out those pockets that normally aren’t reached. So it’s a it’s a much more sophisticated way to clean, it’s more thorough, it’s been used in Europe for a long time and it’s been slow to be adapted in the United States for some reason. We were the first office in Oregon to become certified and 57th or 58th in the United States and since that time one of my hygienists, Cassie, has become so passionate about it she is now the trainer for the whole Northwest.
